Photo to coloring page without upload

Turn a photo into a page to color in: the tool draws the outlines as clear black lines on a white ground. You decide how much detail stays and how thick the lines are – or choose a fine line drawing or a pencil sketch. Then print it right away or save it as an image. Everything is computed on your device, your photo is not uploaded.

🔒 No upload – your photo never leaves your device
Style
Less detail gives large, calm areas to color in – more detail a finer drawing.
The AI cuts out the main subject and traces its outline without gaps – even where subject and background are equally bright. Downloads the cut-out model from Hugging Face once (115 MB, without WebGPU 192 MB), the same as in “Remove background”.
Sheet
With “A4 portrait” or “A4 landscape” the photo is cropped to fit and printed that way; choose the part with “Crop”.

Computed without an AI model right on your device – no download, works offline too. Only the option “Close the outline” downloads a model.

How it works

1

Choose a photo

Drop a photo on the field, pick it or paste it with Ctrl+V. Subjects with clear outlines in front of a calm background work best.

2

Set style and detail

“Coloring page” gives bold lines and large areas, “Line drawing” more subtleties, “Pencil” a shaded sketch. The sliders act at once.

3

Print or save

“Print” fits the drawing onto one sheet. Or save it as PNG or JPG – if you like, only the lines on a transparent ground.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded?+

No. The photo is only read in your browser and converted there – it does not leave your device. Without the AI option no model is downloaded either: the lines come from the edges of the picture itself, and the tool also works without an internet connection after the first visit. Only “Close the outline of the main subject (AI)” downloads a cut-out model from Hugging Face once; even then the photo is processed in your browser only.

Which photos work best?+

Subjects with clear outlines and good lighting: animals, vehicles, buildings, portraits in front of a calm background. Busy surfaces such as leaves, lawn, gravel or patterned fabric are hard – they produce many small strokes. Then lower “Detail” or crop the photo to the subject first.

Why are some outlines not closed?+

The tool draws a line where brightness or color changes clearly in the photo. If a subject has almost the same color as the background somewhere, the edge is missing there – and so is the line. The fix: “Close the outline of the main subject (AI)” – the AI finds the main subject (person, animal, object) and traces its outline without gaps. More “Detail” also closes many gaps but adds strokes inside the areas.

How do I print the coloring page in good quality?+

“Print” fits the drawing onto an A4 sheet with a 10 mm margin. Under “Sheet” choose “A4 portrait” or “A4 landscape” – the photo is then cropped to fit, and with “✂ Crop” you move the frame or drag its corners to take a smaller part. With “Like photo” the whole picture stays and the sheet turns with it: landscape for wide pictures, portrait for tall ones. The drawing is computed with up to 2,200 pixels edge length (1,700 on phones) – enough for a sharp A4 sheet. For thin paper, a slightly lower line weight is advisable.

What is the difference between the three styles?+

“Coloring page” calms the photo strongly and draws only the important outlines – thick and clear, with large free areas. “Line drawing” keeps more subtleties and draws thinner. “Pencil” is not a pure line drawing but a shaded sketch with greys – nice as a picture, less suited for coloring in.

May I pass the coloring pages on?+

The drawing is made from your photo – so the rights to that photo apply. Your own pictures can be used freely, for nursery, school or a club too. For photos of other people or pictures by others you need their consent.

What does the “AI drawing” do differently?+

The other styles find edges with image filters – they follow every jump in brightness, shadows and patterns included. The “AI drawing” uses a small neural network (Informative Drawings, MIT licence) that learned from line drawings made by people: it draws outlines, facial features and folds, leaves shadows out and so gives a calmer, more hand-drawn page. “Detail” sets the size at which the network looks at the photo – less gives a simpler drawing – and “Line weight” makes the strokes stronger. The model (8.6 MB) comes from mytoolio.org and is downloaded once; the photo stays in your browser.

How does “Paint by numbers” work?+

The photo is calmed first, then its colours are sorted into as many groups as set under “Colours” (4 to 24). That gives the areas; areas too small or too narrow to paint go into the neighbour they share the longest border with. Every area gets the number of its colour – where it has the most room – and the colour list with the numbers is placed below the picture (1 = darkest colour). “Show colours” shows the solution so you can see the finished picture in advance; what you see is what is saved and printed.

The drawing is computed without an AI model right in the browser (edge filters); the result depends a lot on the photo. Your picture stays on your device.
