Invoice generator

Write a proper invoice in a few minutes: sender, client, items – the page works out net, VAT and total, checks the mandatory details under German VAT law and creates a PDF, in English or German. Your data stays in your browser.

    How it works

    1

    Sender & client

Your details are remembered locally and are already there next time. Then enter the client.

    2

    Items

Service, quantity, unit, net unit price and VAT rate. As a small business (Kleinunternehmer) no VAT is charged and the § 19 UStG note is added automatically.

    3

    Create the PDF

The check shows which mandatory detail is still missing. Then “Create PDF” – “New invoice” carries on with the next number.

    Frequently asked questions

What must an invoice in Germany contain?+

Under § 14 (4) UStG: name and address of you and your client, your tax number or VAT ID, the invoice date, a sequential invoice number, quantity and type of the service, the date of the service, the amount split by VAT rate and the VAT rate and amount – or a note on the exemption. The check above tests exactly these points.

What do I write as a small business (Kleinunternehmer)?+

Choose “Small business (§ 19 UStG)”. Then no VAT is shown and the sentence “No VAT is charged under § 19 UStG.” is printed on the invoice (in German: “Gemäß § 19 UStG wird keine Umsatzsteuer berechnet.”). You still need your tax number, a sequential number and the other details.

    What is a small-amount invoice?+

Invoices up to €250 gross need fewer details (§ 33 UStDV): name and address of the supplier, date, quantity and type of the service, gross amount and VAT rate. Client, tax number, invoice number and date of service are then not mandatory – the check shows this.

    Will I need an e-invoice soon?+

Between businesses in Germany e-invoicing (XRechnung or ZUGFeRD) becomes mandatory step by step: all businesses must be able to receive them since 2025, businesses with more than €800,000 turnover must issue them from 2027 and all from 2028. Until then a PDF is allowed, for private clients still afterwards. Small businesses and small-amount invoices are exempt. This tool creates a normal PDF, not an e-invoice. As of October 2026.

Is my data stored or sent?+

Nothing is sent. The draft is only kept in your browser’s storage so that it is still there after a reload. “Clear draft” removes it. The PDF is made right on your device. The tool is not tax or legal advice.
