Compress video

Make phone videos small enough for email, messengers or uploads: pick a quality or a target size, lower resolution and frame rate if needed – the video never leaves your device.

How it works

1

Choose a video

Drop or tap an MP4 or MOV (e.g. from an iPhone or Android). Resolution, length and bitrate show up straight away.

2

Set the size

Quality “high / medium / small” or a target size in MB. A smaller resolution and fewer frames per second save even more.

3

Compress & save

Your browser re-encodes the picture (H.264), the sound is kept as it is. Check the preview, then save as MP4.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded?+

No. The video is read and re-encoded with WebCodecs right in your browser. There is no server that sees the file – even large and private videos stay on your device.

Which videos work?+

MP4 and MOV with H.264, HEVC (H.265), AV1 or VP9 – as long as your browser can play them. The result is always an MP4 with H.264 that plays almost everywhere. WebM, MKV and AVI do not work here. It works best in Chrome and Edge, usually in current Safari too.

What makes a video smallest?+

The bitrate sets the size: length × bitrate. A smaller resolution allows a lower bitrate with a similarly good picture – 720p is enough for phones and messengers. 15 or 24 frames per second and leaving out the sound save even more.

Why is the target size not exact to the byte?+

The encoder spends bits by content: calm scenes need fewer, busy ones more. The tool keeps some headroom and encodes once more with a lower bitrate if the result is still too big.

What happens to sound, location and other data?+

The sound is copied byte for byte or removed if you like. The new file holds only picture and sound – no location, device or other metadata of the original.
