Video to GIF
Turn a video clip into a GIF that plays everywhere – in chats, slides, docs and forums. Pick start and end, set size and frame rate, done.
How it works
Choose a video
Drop or tap an MP4, MOV or WebM – anything your browser can play.
Pick the clip
Scrub the video to the spot and tap “Now” – or type start and end in seconds. Width and frames per second set the file size.
Create the GIF
The frames are read from the video and packed with their own colour palette into a GIF that loops forever – check the preview, save.
Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded?+
No. The video plays in your browser, the frames are read there and packed into the GIF. No server sees the file.
Why is my GIF so big?+
GIF is an old format: every frame is stored almost uncompressed, with at most 256 colours. The size grows with width × height × number of frames. Shorter clips, 320 or 480 px width and 10 frames per second keep it small. Calm scenes come out smaller than lots of motion.
How long can the GIF be?+
Up to 30 seconds. With a large width and many frames per second the limit comes sooner, because all frames are held in memory at once – the tool tells you.
Why do gradients look banded?+
A GIF has at most 256 colours for the whole picture. The tool picks the 255 most important colours from all frames; fine gradients like sky or skin can still show steps. For photos with many colours a short MP4 is the better choice.
Does the GIF have sound?+
No, GIF cannot store sound. It plays silently in an endless loop.
