Frequently asked questions
What is leetspeak?+
Leetspeak (also written "1337" or "leet") is an alternative way of writing where letters are replaced by numbers and symbols that look similar — for example A becomes 4 and E becomes 3. It originated in early internet and hacker culture.
What is the difference between the modes?+
Light only swaps the most common letters (a, e, i, o, t…) so the text stays readable. Medium adds more replacements, and Hardcore uses multi-character symbol combinations for a heavily encoded look.
What do UwU, Zalgo, Upside down and Emoji do?+
UwU turns text into the cutesy internet speak (r and l become w, plus the odd “nya” and a face at the end of a sentence). Zalgo stacks accent marks above and below every letter for the “glitch” look – the strength slider goes from a light shimmer (1) to total chaos (5). Upside down swaps each character for a look-alike that stands on its head and reverses the order, so the text reads correctly when you turn the screen around. Emoji replaces around 250 everyday words with the matching emoji (dog becomes 🐶, pizza becomes 🍕) – it knows English and German words.
Is my text stored anywhere?+
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server or saved.
Can I convert the result back to normal text?+
Yes. Switch on “Translate back” and paste the text, or press the swap button between the two fields. Zalgo, upside-down text and emojis come back cleanly. Leetspeak is a best guess: several letters share one symbol (a 1 can be i or l), capital letters are lost and plain numbers are left alone. Only UwU has no way back, because r and l both became w.
