Convert audio to MIDI without upload

Sing, play or load a recording – the Basic Pitch AI works out which notes sound when, several at once too. You see the notes as a piano roll, hear them together with the original and save them as a MIDI file for your music software. It works best with a single instrument or a voice. Everything runs on your device, nothing is uploaded.

🔒 No upload – your recording never leaves your device
Higher also finds quiet notes – but more overtones and wrong notes too.
Higher splits quickly repeated notes into single ones, lower keeps long notes in one piece.
Slides and vibrato of notes played one at a time go into the MIDI file as pitch bend (up to ±2 semitones) – good for voice, violin, guitar. Not possible while several notes sound at once.

How it works

1

Choose a recording

Drop an audio file on the field or pick it – the audio track of a video works too. The notes are detected within a few seconds.

2

Listen & fine-tune

Play the original and the notes together. Pitch range, sensitivity and onset splitting clear away wrong notes – the piano roll shows every change at once.

3

Save the MIDI

Set the tempo and, if you like, a grid and save the MIDI file. It opens in any music software for further editing.

Frequently asked questions

Is my recording uploaded?+

No. The file is read in your browser and analysed there – it does not leave your device. The AI model and the runtime are served by mytoolio itself; no other provider is involved.

Which recordings work best?+

A single instrument or one voice, with as little reverb and background noise as possible: piano, guitar, bass, violin, flute, singing. Polyphonic playing such as chords is detected as well. Whole songs with drums and many instruments are harder – everything ends up in one note track, and the drums cause wrong notes. Tip: split the song into stems first with “Vocal remover & stem splitter”, then convert the bass or the vocals on their own.

Why are there wrong or doubled notes?+

Every tone contains overtones, which the model sometimes reads as notes of their own – typically one octave too high. A fitting pitch range (for example “Bass” or “Voice”), a lower sensitivity or a longer “Shortest note” helps. If a long note breaks into many short ones, lower “Split onsets”; if quick repetitions merge, raise it.

What are tempo and grid for?+

The notes are detected with their real time in seconds. The tempo decides how these times are laid out in bars in the MIDI file: if it matches the tempo of the recording, the notes sit on the bar grid in your music software. The grid additionally snaps the start and end of every note to eighths, sixteenths or thirty-seconds – only useful if the tempo is right and the recording is played evenly. The tempo is not detected automatically.

Do I get sheet music as well?+

Not directly – the tool delivers a MIDI file and a note list as CSV. Notation programs such as MuseScore open MIDI files and turn them into a score; with a matching tempo and grid the result is much more readable. Pitch movement such as vibrato or bent strings is written as fixed semitones.

How long can the recording be, and does it work offline?+

Up to 10 minutes on a computer and 6 on a phone; of longer recordings the beginning is analysed. Detection only takes a few seconds. After the first load the model stays in the browser cache, then the tool also works without an internet connection.

Does the tool detect key and tempo?+

Can I correct notes, record from the microphone or save pitch bends?+

Yes. In the piano roll you move a note by clicking and dragging it (in time and pitch, snapping to the grid if one is set), Del deletes the selected note, Ctrl+Z undoes the last step. “🎙 Record” records straight from the microphone – without echo and noise suppression, so instruments sound natural – and then analyses the recording; it does not leave your device. With “Pitch contour as pitch bend”, slides and vibrato of notes played one at a time go into the MIDI file. In “Split music” you can hand a track (such as the vocals or the bass) straight over here with “🎹”.
